No injuries were reported after the Pelham Police Department was forced to evacuate a portion of the city’s Chandalar neighborhood on Dec. 21.

The incident began shortly after 8 p.m. when the Pelham police and fire departments responded to a possible suicide call in the 600 block of Chandalar Lane. After emergency responders arrived on the scene, officers heard a gunshot and then “observed a white male fire two more gun shots before retreating back into his residence,” according to a Police Department press release.

After establishing a perimeter around the scene, police evacuated surrounding residents and called in the department’s Tactical Operations Unit and crisis negotiators.

After three-and-a-half hours, the officers were able to bring the incident to a peaceful conclusion, and allowed evacuated residents to return home.

As of Dec. 22, the incident was still under investigation.
