CALERA—Senator Richard Shelby continued his statewide jobs and industry tour with a visit to leadership and employees at A.C. Legg, Inc. in Calera.

A.C. Legg, a food seasoning business, has been in operation since 1923. The company employs a full R&D staff, which develops confidential recipes for corporate customers.

During his visit, Shelby emphasized his conservative stance on business regulation.

“We do not want to overregulate, we do not want to tax. It’s all about economics and making jobs,” Shelby said.

Since the beginning of his industry tour on Jan. 1, Shelby has visited over 50 counties and he plans to visit all 69 counties in the state before the tour is over.

“Let us know how we can do no harm,” Shelby told A.C. Legg employees.

Jeff and Chuck Purvis, whose grandfather bought the business in 1979 after being an employee for over 50 years, said that they were thrilled to be selected as part of the tour.

“We’re proud of our business, and we’re proud to show any customer any of our products,” Chuck Purvis said of the tour.

“It’s an honor to be selected,” Jeff Purvis said.
