Early dismissals and cancellations for Monday, April 28

The following is a list of early dismissals and cancellations due to the potential of severe weather in the area Monday, April 28:

City of Alabaster

The Alabaster City Council meeting has been cancelled and rescheduled for May 1. The Albert L. Scott Library will close at 5:30 p.m. (earlier if weather deteriorates). All afternoon and evening activities scheduled for Alabaster parks are canceled.

Alabaster City Schools

The Alabaster City School System will dismiss two hours early April 28 due to the threat of severe weather, and all after school care programs, activities and athletic events are cancelled.

Hilltop Montessori School

Hilltop Montessori School in Mt Laurel is not dismissing early at this time, but will not be offering aftercare services or after school activities, and requested all parents pick up their children by 3:30 p.m.

Hoover City Schools

Hoover City Schools will dismiss two hours early Monday, April 28 due to approaching severe weather, and all school buses will run their normal routes two hours early. In addition, all after-school activities, including the Extended Day Program, are cancelled. Hoover Elementary students are participating in ACT Aspire testing this morning. Parents are urged not to check out students before dismissal unless necessary.

Indian Springs School

Indian Springs School will close at 2:30 p.m. today due to the threat of strong storms and damaging winds moving into the area. All after-school and evening practices and activities are canceled.

Over the Mountain Spring Fling

The Over the Mountain Chamber’s Spring Fling networking event set for 5:30 p.m. April 28 at Dixie Fish Company has been canceled due to severe weather predictions. The event, hosted by the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce as well as the Homewood, Hoover, Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills chambers, has not yet been rescheduled.

Pelham Board of Education

The Pelham Board of Education’s regular meeting has been rescheduled for April 30 at 4 p.m. in the conference room at City Hall.

Shelby County Commission

The Shelby County Commission has rescheduled its regular meeting for 3 p.m. April 28 due to the threat of severe weather. Shelby County Administrative Assistant Kim Reynolds said all county offices will close at 4 p.m. The commission was scheduled to meet at its regular time of 6 p.m. Commission meetings are held at the Shelby County Administration Building, 200 W. College St., Columbiana.

Shelby County Schools

All Shelby County Schools and offices will dismiss at 1 p.m. today due to the “prediction and high risk of severe weather,” spokesperson Cindy Warner said. All after school care programs for Shelby County Schools are also cancelled

University of Montevallo

The University of Montevallo will close April 28 at 1 p.m. The closing includes all classes and activities, but will not impact exams scheduled to conclude by 12:30 p.m. All residence halls, Farmer Hall and Ramsay Hall basement are listed as university shelters, according to the UM university relations team.
