COLUMBIANA—The Shelby County Board of Education unanimously approved Calera High School Principal Richard Bishop’s resignation during its July 24 meeting.

Bishop has served as principal of the school since 2008.

Calera ranked 15th on the list of best Alabama high schools released this year by the U.S. News and World Report, a ranking Bishop said was the “result of a lot of hard work from our teachers and staff.”

Bishop is leaving the school after taking a job as the director of ITT Technical Institute, according to Cindy Warner, public relations supervisor for Shelby County Schools.

The board will approve a new principal during a July 30 board meeting at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center.
