Samuel “Lee” Barnes, 73 of Williamsville, IL, died at 12:13 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Lee was born August 2, 1941 in Shelby County, the son of Jesse Windsor and Mamie Jane White Barnes.  He married Charlotte McCain on April 1, 1963 in Talladega, AL.

Lee graduated from Shelby County High School in 1959 and then earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1963 from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL.  He worked his entire career in the insurance industry, most recently as a vice president at Horace Mann until his retirement.  He served on the Williamsville School Board for 8 years, the village board for 11 years, and as mayor in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.  Lee enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was also active in his church, serving as treasurer, deacon, elder, trustee, and youth sponsor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Barnes of Williamsville, two sons, Kenneth Lee Barnes (Cynthia) of Nampa, ID and Jeffery Dwayne Barnes (Mitzie) of Paris, IL; six grandchildren, Cory, Brittany, Abbie, Hannah, David, and Nathan Barnes; his siblings, Joseph Barnes (Mary), Louise Gallups, and Nettie Jones (Jimmy), all of Wilsonville, AL, Freida Perry of Columbiana, AL, and Bettie Wade (Ronnie) of Adamsville, AL; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, Sept. 15 at Bolton Funeral Home in Columbiana, AL.  Burial will follow in Pinelawn Gardens in Columbiana, Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bolton Funeral Home.
