ALABASTER – Children and families looking to get a jump start on Halloween will have a chance to fill their treat bags at Alabaster’s YMCA on Oct. 28.

From 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Alabaster YMCA at 11 Plaza Circle will host a “trunk or treat” event in the facility’s athletic fields.

During the free event, local churches, civic groups, student organizations and other nonprofits will hand out candy and other treats to children who attend.

“Kids are encouraged to wear their most creative costumes and have their faces painted as they trunk or treat on the Y’s athletic field,” read a YMCA press release about the event.

Alabaster YMCA Membership Director Jennifer Campbell said the branch has held fall festivals several times in the past, but this year will mark the facility’s first trunk or treat.

“We’re encouraging churches, businesses, nonprofits and other groups to register and decorate their cars and hand out candy and information,” Campbell said during an Oct. 20 interview, noting the YMCA has commitments from several organizations interested in participating in the event.

Organizations, businesses or churches interested in taking part in the trunk or treat are encouraged to contact Campbell at jcampbell@ymcabham.org or by calling 663-7240.
