Two Shelby County roads are closed Sunday morning due to flooding in low-lying areas, according to a press release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.

County Road 87 near the intersection of U.S. 31 is closed with barricades blocking the road. County Road 266 at the intersection of County Road 17 is also closed and barricaded with water also impeding travel on County Road 17 in the area.

Highway 119 is also experiencing flooding at several locations with the intersection of Jasmine Hill Road being the worst of them.

Shelby County is also under a flash flood warning, according to the press release.

“Residents should seek higher ground if they live in an area known to flood and motorists are encouraged to drive slower than normal and use extra precautions where water is visible on the road,” the release stated. “The standard rule of the road is, ‘Do not to drive into water covering the road, turn around, and take an alternate route.”

Several other roads are being closed in local cities and those police agencies have a list of their closures. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department advised calling 911 if you have an emergency.

Shelby County deputies have been monitoring the roadways throughout the night and will continue to do so.
