Gathering in Calera, about 1910. Our celebrations, our organizations, our churches and even our disasters, all are what help to make the community of Shelby County. We celebrated our foundations, whether political or spiritual. The citizens endured disasters of all kinds. The natural kind included floods and tornadoes. Foremost among the manmade structures over the 197 years of county history. Celebrate with the Shelby County Historical Society on Feb. 1 the 197th birthday of the founding of Shelby County, Ala.
