PELHAM – The 2015-2016 academic calendar for Pelham City Schools released recently contains more potential weather make-up days than the previous year’s calendar.

The 2015-16 calendar lists four potential weather days, with two days in the first semester and two days in the second semester.

The 2014-15 calendar only listed one weather day in February.

“We need to at least build some days into this calendar,” PCS Superintendent Dr. Scott Coefield said at a Feb. 23 board meeting. “That does give us a little flexibility.”

Coefield said the calendar usually does not include weather days in the first semester, but having two in each semester would ensure the school system has enough, if necessary.

The potential weather days are Nov. 23 and 24, Feb. 15 and April 18.

The calendar, which the board approved on Feb. 23, was “the overwhelming choice” of two options, Coefield said.

Students will report back to school on Aug. 12, and the last day of school is May 26.
