COLUMBIANA – Animal lovers and car enthusiasts likely won’t be disappointed with what they find at the first Tails & Tires Car Show on May 9 in downtown Columbiana.

The inaugural event is intended to benefit the Shelby Humane Society. Event organizer Glenda Roberson said she and her co-workers at Alabama Power in Wilsonville wanted to do something nice for the community and bring awareness to the Humane Society’s programs.

“It’s just something that has come from a desire to want to help, and I’m lucky enough that I work for a company that supports (me in) doing this,” Roberson said.

Tails & Tires will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street in Columbiana, with no charge to attend.

Animals will be available for adoption at the event.

Cars in the show will be parked along the street. The following awards will be given: Mayor’s Choice, Best in Show, Best in Show Runner-Up, Best Custom, Best Original and Best Street Rod.

Registration is $20 for the first car and $15 for each additional car.

The event also will include food and crafts vendors, door prizes and live music from The Last Chance Band.

“Bring your pets if you like,” Roberson said.
