CALERA – Ryan Caver of Calera Middle School, class of 2020, from Calera has been invited and will be competing at the nation’s top prep football all-star camp, Football University Top Gun, at Dublin Jerome High School in Dublin, Ohio, from Monday, July 20 to Wednesday, July 22. Being a part of FBU Top Gun means that these players are considered the best at their respective positions.

Caver was invited to Top Gun because of his outstanding performance as an offensive lineman at the 2015 FBU Atlanta camp. He will join more than 1,600 of the nation’s top athletes at their respective positions and will train with current and former NFL coaches and players.

Top Gun is the culmination of Football University’s 24-camp nationwide camp season gathering the most elite performers from across the United States and allowing them to compete and display their abilities together on one stage. Football University has an impressive alumni list that includes some of the top college football recruits and players in the nation.

Headlining the Top Gun Showcase coaching staff are quarterbacks coach Jeff Rutledge, former quarterback coach of the Arizona Cardinals; running back coach Robert Edwards, offensive line coach Jim McNally, who is considered the best offensive line coach in the game; defensive back coach Ray Buchanan; and wide receiver coach Charlie Collins, who is considered one of the finest receiver coaches in the game.

247Sports said of the showcase that, “no event is bigger than Football University Top Gun. It is easily the most highly anticipated camp for us because of the level of talent.”

Caver weighs in at more than 180 pounds and stands at slightly over 5-feet-8-inches in height at the tender age of 12. The young lineman plays both ways for the Calera Middle School team, and has been making his rounds in the offseason to a number of different showcase events, including the National Underclassmen All-Star Youth game in February in Oviedo, Fla. He has also participated in a combine held by Rivals.com at Hoover High School in March as well as the afore-mentioned FBU Atlanta camp.

Football University Top Gun is designed to give elite high school and middle school athletes like Caver top-flight instruction and have trained some of the nation’s top players. In addition to a list of all-star athletes, Top Gun boasts an elite staff of some of football’s greatest minds who have privately trained and mentored players such as Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Eli Manning and Tony Romo.
