New administrators hired for Montevallo and Chelsea High Schools

ALABASTER–The Shelby County Board of Education approved two new administrators for Montevallo and Chelsea High Schools at a special board meeting held Friday, Aug. 14.

Brandon Turner, who was just recently hired as the new assistant principal at Helena High School, will assume the principal’s role at Montevallo High School. The board also approved Matthew Stephens as the new assistant principal for Chelsea High School.

Turner has over 16 years experience in public education. Prior to serving at Helena High School, he was an assistant principal at Vestavia High School. Turner earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies and a master’s degree in educational leadership and is currently working on a doctorate in education in educational and instructional leadership at the University of Alabama.

Stephens has over eight years experience in public education and currently works for the Hoover City School system. Stephens earned a bachelor’s degree in math from Birmingham Southern and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Alabama.

During a special-called meeting on July 28, the Alabaster Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Dr. Wesley Hester as the new principal at Thompson High School.

Hester had served as the MHS principal for the last two years and once he accepted the position at THS, a search was conducted to replace Hester and Turner assumed his role.
