PELHAM–Warehouse 31 is teaming up with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for the inaugural Zombie Run 5K that will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, and 50 percent of proceeds will benefit the Relay for Life organization.

The Zombie Run 5K will kick off the haunted season early and those who enter the run will have the opportunity to enter the race as a zombie or as a regular runner.

The zombies will be placed along the 3.1 mile course to chase the regular runners.

Those who choose to be regular runners will be given a flag football belt to wear and will try and avoid the zombies.

At the end of the race, the first runner across the finish line with both flags will win a prize along with the zombie who captures the most flags.

The Zombie Run 5K will start and finish at Warehouse 31 located at 3050 Lee Street at 10 a.m. Saturday.

In addition to the run, a post-run survivors party will be held that consists of a Live Wire band who will be performing and playing music. Food and drinks will be for sale including beer and games and activities for adults and kids including corn hole, volleyball and more will be held to benefit the American Cancer Society.

There are 11 area high schools helping to organize and raise funds for the event to benefit Relay For Life. If participants have ties to one of these schools, they are encouraged to select that school when purchasing tickets so they will receive credit. The schools are as follows: Calera, Chelsea, Helena, Homewood, Hoover, John Carroll, Montevallo, Oak Mountain, Pelham, Spain Park, Thompson or you may select the ACS Junior Board.

Those wishing to register for the run can do so by registering at Warehouse31.com or in person beginning at 8:30 a.m. the day of the run.
