MONTEVALLO – Women’s basketball head coach Cindy Hilbrich recently announced the hiring of Heidi Messer as the team’s new assistant coach.

Coach Hilbrich feels that the knowledge and energy that Messer brings to the game will really help the Falcons this season.

“I am thrilled to have Heidi join our Falcon family,” Hilbrich said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and a high level of energy and passion.  She is a great fit and I’m excited to start working with her.”

Messer arrives at Montevallo after three seasons with Manchester (Ind.) University where she was an assistant coach.  While at Manchester she also served as recruiting coordinator, academic advisor, and oversaw individual player development.  Since May of 2014 Messer had also served as the schools Senior Women Administrator.

Excited for the opportunity to come to Montevallo, Messer feels that she is a good fit for coach Hilbrich’s system.

“I saw coming to Montevallo as an opportunity to not only grow and learn under a new head coach, but also to take my coaching experience to a different level”, said Messer.  “With that, I saw a team with growing program values and a mentality in coach Hilbrich that I knew I could enjoy being a part of because I think that kind of passion and energy filters into a team and leads to success.”

Before Manchester University Messer was a graduate assistant for two seasons while she earned her master’s degree at Georgetown (Ky.) College.  While with the Tigers she helped lead the program to a Fab Four National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ appearance.

During her stint with the Tigers she coached two All-Americans and four All-Conference players in her two seasons with the program.

Messer began her coaching career as an assistant at her alma mater Grace (Ind.) College in 2008-09.
