CHELSEA – City leaders opened bids for the first phase of the Chelsea Sports Complex on Sept. 3 at 10 a.m.

Coston General Contractors submitted a bid of $1,133,187, and Clements Dean Building submitted a bid of $1,427,000.

Walker Patton Company, H.N. Donahoo Construction and Baird Contracting, Inc. were on the bid list but did not submit bids.

The bid is for paving at the complex for more than 220 parking spaces, concrete and fencing.

“The bid includes everything except lighting, the concession stand and maintenance building, Mayor Earl Niven said.

The council will vote on the bids from Coston General Contractors and Clements Dean Building at the Tuesday, Sept. 15 council meeting.

A bid opening for lighting and electrical components of the project will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m.

At an Aug. 4 council meeting, City Engineer Frank Spencer said the next bid, for the complex’s concession stand, will follow the park and sports lighting bids by about a month.

The city’s plans are to have the first phase of the complex completed by the spring of 2016.

The complex sits on more than 100 acres of land off Shelby County 11, near the Chelsea High School campus.
