COLUMBIANA – Shelby County High School students, their families and local residents are invited to a projector movie night at SCHS on the night of Saturday, Oct. 10.

The Messengers, a Christian small group at SCHS, is hosting the movie night a week before the school’s homecoming and will show “Back to the Future.”

“Not everybody has seen ‘Back to the Future,'” The Messengers co-leader Joshua Holland said. “Since that’s the homecoming theme, we wanted to give everybody a chance to watch it in a fun way.”

The movie will start at 6:45 p.m. at the SCHS band field.

Admission is free, and concessions will be available for purchase.

Attendees may bring chairs and blankets.

“This will be the first time it’s ever been done,” Holland said of the event, which will also give attendees a chance to learn more about The Messengers.

“We want our small group to grow,” said Holland, who leads the group with Elizabeth Stancil. “Our mission this year is to lead a revival at our school this year … through that we can spread the light and love of Jesus Christ to everybody who walks through these doors.”

The group, comprised of about 30 members, meets at the school in the mornings and will hold community service projects in the spring.

“This group is for the community,” Holland said. “It’s based at SCHS, but overall, it is for the community.”

Holland said the group’s theme Bible verse this year is Acts 20:24: “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus––the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God” (NLT).
