COLUMBIANA – Undefeated Beauregard High School’s closest game before it came to Columbiana on Oct. 2 was a 42-27 win over Sylacauga on Sept. 11. Another blowout was in store for the visiting Hornets as Shelby County fell 43-7 at home to fall to 2-5 on the year.

Beauregard jumped out to a 29-0 lead at the half. The first half however was highlighted by a scary moment when do-everything running back Jamarius Mayfield went down in the second quarter and left the game with symptoms of a concussion, and did not return for precautionary reasons. Without their prolific top running threat, the Wildcats floundered on offense, unable to score until a fourth quarter garbage time touchdown from Jeremiah Crenshaw.

The Wildcats did welcome back Aremee Calloway from his sabbatical, as the junior bulldozer led Shelby County in rushing yards on the night with 94 yards on 14 carries. Quarterback Mason Blythe did attempt 12 passes on the night, a season high for the senior, who completed three for 21 yards.

After Beauregard jumped out to the insurmountable 29-0 halftime lead, the Hornets added another 14 points in the second half as they rolled to a 43-7 win.

Shelby County falls to 2-5 with the loss and will have to regroup fast as the Wildcats travel to Sylacauga next Friday.
