PELHAM— Monsters, ghosts and ghouls have returned to Warehouse 31 to deliver scares to those who enter during the Halloween season.  With zombie paintball, two haunted attractions and more, Warehouse 31 promises a spooky experience for all.

“Our goal is to deliver an entertainment experience,” said Warehouse 31 owner Jason Sills. “We think about it more than operating a haunted house and trying to scare folks.”

While the haunted houses are inside, guests will find several attractions outside while they wait. A giant movie screen shows horror films alongside food and beverage vendors, and people can also play carnival-themed games.

People can also take aim at live zombies in the zombie paintball section outside. A trailer will drive participants around a course as they shoot at the live targets.

Sills said one unique aspect from some other haunted houses in the area is Warehouse 31’s 3-D haunted house. It’s painted with florescent and glow-in-the-dark colors, and guests will wear 3-D glasses while weaving through hallways.

“We try to focus on attention to detail whether it’s audio (or) lighting. We even have smells we put in there,” Sills said. “(We do) whatever we can do to draw people in and play off their senses to get people to believe they are really in that scene.”

Rigamortis is the main attraction, and Sills said it encompasses all the scenes of a typical haunted house, such as a graveyard, junkyard and medical operations gone bad.

Each year, the Warehouse 31 team meets in creative sessions during the off-season, pitching ideas for the next year’s house. Sills said they work all summer, making changes and playing with the design.

“We are always focused on the reviews we get,” he said. “We are constantly asking folks what they think of it, and we make adjustments in real time and make sure we can deliver that experience.”

Sills started Warehouse 31 in 2009, after he met the owner of another local haunted house. After learning how popular haunted houses are and how large the industry was growing, Sills said he was blown away with the technology.

“We decided to give it a shot,” Sills said. “We got into it and loved it. It’s a good form of entertainment and it’s rewarding to sit at the end and hear people laughing as they come out having a good time with their friends and family.”
