ALABASTER – The Lady Lions have waited a calendar year for this chance again. Anthony Boyd’s squad, a year after taking a perfect record to the AISA 2A volleyball Final Four and losing to Tuscaloosa Academy, once again takes a perfect record to Montgomery. The Lady Lions this season are 20-0 after a three-set win over Fort Dale in the AISA Elite Eight and have yet to even lose a set.

Against Fort Dale, Kingwood came out hot and won the first two sets easily, 25-8, 25-10. The third set ended 25-10 also, but Kingwood sleepwalked through the first part of the set, tied 6-6 at one point before ripping off 19 of the next 23 points to stay perfect on the year.

“I think we played pretty well, we just got pretty complacent in that last game,” Boyd said after the match. “We’ve waited one year, one full year to get to this point again. We wanted to win this, and we wanted to win convincingly.”

The Lady Lions were led by Kathryn Boyd, who had 16 kills, five digs and two aces; Kirsten Boyd, who had 20 assists, nine aces and one kill; and Natalie Watts who had nine kills, one ace and five digs.

Kingwood travels to Faulkner University on Thursday, Oct. 22 for the AISA 2A Final Four.
