HARPERSVILLE – The Coosa Valley Rebels frustrating season continued Friday night when they played host to the Kingwood Christian Lions. The lack of depth and struggling defense plagued Coosa Valley throughout the evening. The Rebels gave up two early touchdowns and never recovered.

Early in the second quarter, Coosa Valley got on the board after a 16-yard touchdown run by Camden Knight pulled them to 14-7. That was as close as they would come all night. Just three minutes later, Kingwood found the end zone again on a 19-yard Wyatt Baker run to increase their lead 22-7.

Easton Hopkins of Coosa Valley helped keep the score close when he reeled off an impressive 52-yard touchdown return off a Lions punt midway through the quarter to move the score to 22-13.

Later on in the second, after a Kingwood sack by Dalton Douglas resulted in a turnover for the Rebels, Kingwood began to pull away after a Kerry Thompson touchdown before halftime increased the lead to 28-13.

In the third, Kingwood continued its domination when Baker rumbled down field for a 69-yard touchdown and again in the fourth after Thompson added six more on another touchdown catch. Coosa Valley added another meaningless late score, and fell 42-21.

Coach McCord is now beginning to look ahead to next year. “That’s the plan right now. Just get in the weight room and go to work and just try to be a more physical team next year.”
