MONTEVALLO – The Lady Bulldogs from Montevallo were the last girls basketball team playing a season ago in Shelby County. Head coach Tena Niven and her squad of young talent made it to the 4A Sweet Sixteen a season ago before being bounced by Munford. The Lady Bulldogs picked up in 2015 right where they left off last season with a dominating 66-42 win over Jefferson Christian on opening night.

Sophomore guard and reigning Shelby County Player of the Year Lauren Lilly had 20 points on the nights to lead the way for Montevallo while Kaylon Reaser had 12. Alahsa Reed and Dakota DuBose both had 10 as well.

The first half was relatively low-scoring, as Montevallo took a 27-17 lead into the break. The Lady Bulldogs pulled away in the third quarter as they outscored the visiting Lady Eagles 31-8 in the third to take a commanding 58-25 lead.

Montevallo moved to 1-0 on the season and will take on Jemison on Nov. 19.
