Chelsea survives first round of Tip-Off Classic

CHELSEA – Chelsea High School is in the middle of hosting the 10th annual North Shelby Tip-Off Classic, which this year has eight teams, three of which are from Shelby County in Chelsea, Thompson and Helena.

Chelsea was the only county team of the three to win its opening round matchup, as the Hornets beat Helena by a final of 59-53. Thompson lost its first game of the young season, falling to Auburn in the first round of the tournament 57-52. The Warriors will take on Southside-Gadsden in the first consolation game today at 3 p.m. while Helena will play Tuscaloosa County in the other consolation game at 4:30.

Chelsea will play Childersburg tonight at 7:30 for a chance at the championship game, which will be played tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
