HOOVER—Drivers on U.S. 280 may soon notice improvements to the intersection of U.S. 280 and Old Highway 280, near Walmart. The Hoover City Council approved two resolutions on Nov. 16 allowing Mayor Gary Ivey to execute agreements with ALDOT for work on the intersection.

The scope of the work approved on Nov. 16 includes “grading, draining, paving and otherwise improving” the intersection, Resolution No. 5331-15 states.

Three 12-inch, three section LED traffic signals will also be placed at the intersection.

The work is part of a larger $1.01 million ALDOT project, which includes work along U.S. 280 and Cahaba Valley Road.

According to the ALDOT Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, improvements will be made to the intersection of U.S. 280 and Cahaba Valley Road. Additional lanes are planned for Cahaba Valley Road from Corporate Drive to Brook Highland Parkway.

The federal government and state government are both providing funds for the project. The federal government is paying a $808,000 share and the state government is providing the remaining $202,000.
