PELHAM— Lovers of biographies, diaries, true crime and more now have a place to get together for fellowship in Pelham at the public library’s Browsers Nonfiction Club.

David Smith, the adult services coordinator with the Pelham Public Library, decided to start the book club after he realized there weren’t many clubs centered on nonfiction books.

“I just thought that you see book clubs all the time for fiction,” Smith said. “I thought, why not have something for those who love to read nonfiction?”

The other twist is there will not be an assigned book for the attendees to read. Instead, each meeting will have a theme and attendees can bring in one of their favorite books or movies that coincides with it.

Themes include positive change in January, heartwarming stories in February and Crime Cappers in March. Smith said when there is no assigned reading, it makes the book club casual. People can just share the books they enjoy.

“Why limit to one book when there are so many good one’s out there?” he said. “And movies as well.”

Smith said he plans on bringing, “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo to the January meeting.

This is the first book club the Pelham Public Library has hosted, and Smith said he has already had a couple people express interest in it. They seemed most interested in being able to bring their own books in to share, according to Smith.

Movies that coincide with the theme of the day are also appreciated, he said.

“I am eager to see how it goes,” he said.

Meetings will be the first Wednesday of most months from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The first three meetings are scheduled for Jan. 6, Feb. 3 and March 2. For more information, call 620-6418.
