County schools cancelling after-school events due to severe weather threat

The Shelby County School System, Alabaster City School System and Pelham City School System has announced that all after-school activities and events, including after school daycare have been cancelled for Tuesday, Feb. 2, due to the possible threat of severe weather.

The Hoover City School System announced that all after-school events would be cancelled beginning at 6 p.m. Hoover City Schools Extended Day Programs will run regular hours, closing at 6 p.m.

“Coordination with our local Shelby County EMA as well as local and regional weather sources all indicate that Shelby County is included in a Central Alabama weather band that may produce severe thunderstorms later today. Therefore, all after-school events including after-school daycare this evening are canceled,” read a statement from the Shelby County Schools Facebook page.

Pelham City Schools announced classes and buses will run on normal schedules, but after-school programs, community dinner and extracurricular activities will be cancelled.
