Calera man charged with soliciting sex with child online

WALKER COUNTY— The Cordova Police Department in Walker County arrested 29-year-old Matthew Trumbly Jan. 4 on felony charges of soliciting sex with a child online and traveling to meet a child for sex.

Trumbly, who lists an address on Sapphire Street in Calera, was arrested as a result of an undercover operation after the suspect allegedly “did solicit an individual he believed to be a 15-year-old female to meet with him for the purpose of engaging in an unlawful sex act,” according to court documents.

The documents stated that Trumbly allegedly traveled to Cordova in Walker County Jan. 4 “for the purpose of engaging in an unlawful sex act.”

Trumbly was transported to the Walker County jail where he is being held on bonds totaling $90,000.

Soliciting sex with a child online is a Class C felony and traveling to meet a child for sex is a Class A felony. According to Alabama state law, Trumbly could spend up to life in prison if convicted.
