At about 12:54 p.m. on Feb. 7, the Pelham Police Department was notified of a dead body found along Interstate 65 near the 246 mile post by a passerby.

Responding officers located the body of an unidentified white male in the woods about 50 yards off I-65. The body is believed to be a missing person reported to the Pelham Police Department last week, but the body has not yet been positively identified.

No positive identification has been made and an autopsy will be performed today or tomorrow at the Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery, according to a statement by Shelby County coroner Diana New.

New said once the family of the deceased has been notified, Pelham Police Department will release a statement with the identification. The circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation by Pelham Police investigators at this time.
