ALABASTER – The Alabaster Police Department will again offer self-defense classes for women this summer, and currently is accepting registration information from those interested in participating.

The classes will focus on women’s self-defense techniques, and will be hosted by two Alabaster police officers who are Rape Aggression Defense certified: Jamison Lee and Jeffery Greene. The classes are free and are open to all females 13 years old or older.

In order to complete each class, participants must take nine total hours of instruction or 12 hours with the “Red Man” simulation. The Red Man simulation allows class participants to safely use force against simulated aggressors.

“Remember that we have limited amounts of space for participants, so if you sign up please do your best to make the classes so that another participant does not miss out on this training,” read an Alabaster Police Department statement. “We are expecting these slots to fill up fast, so sign up now!”

All classes will be held in the Thompson High School cafeteria, which is at 100 Warrior Drive. Participants should park in the school’s rear parking lot, should refrain from wearing jewelry for safety reasons and should bring water to stay hydrated during the training sessions. No firearms, pepper spray or knives are allowed in the classes.
