He was born on Jan. 27, 1919 in Birmingham. Clyde joined the U.S. Army in 1943. He was shipped to Europe in 1944, where he worked in unloading and delivering supplies back and forth from barges and the U.S. front lines. After six months, he was transferred to the 349th Infantry where he was promoted to Sergeant and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. When the war ended he was sent to England to cabinet making school. He was finally shipped home in 1946. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and two Bronze Stars for his service to his country.

Upon his return to Alabama, Clyde was a builder in Birmingham for over 45 years. He worked with Robins Morton Construction for 26 of those years, where he was promoted to superintendent. He was an active member of the Columbiana Kiwanis and volunteered with the Head Start reading program in Columbiana. Through his volunteer work at the local elementary school, he was recognized by and met President George H.W. Bush. He was a faithful member of Columbiana United Methodist Church and the Luther Fowler Sunday School Class. Clyde loved living on Lay Lake where he took great pleasure in gardening, working in his yard and fishing. He loved his dogs Major, Penny and Belle, and every dog he met loved him. Clyde never met a stranger and was beloved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
