PELHAM – The Oak Mountain Eagles boys soccer team (16-0-1) collected their second consecutive Metro Tournament Championship with a commanding 4-0 win over Spain Park (7-5-4) at Pelham High School on Friday.

The Eagles, who came into the game ranked number one in the state of Alabama, controlled the game from the first touch, both offensively and defensively.

“About a week or two ago our offense really started clicking. We started scoring two, three, and now four goals in a game,” said Oak Mountain head coach Daniel DeMasters.

Chad Jeter scored the first goal of the game for the Eagles with 19:29 remaining in the first half after knocking home a corner kick that had deflected off of a Spain Park player. Kennedy Davis also got into the action with 7:52 left in the first half, scoring on a breakaway.

The Eagles picked up right where they left off in the first half and came out firing in the second half. Davis collected his second goal of the game with 27 minutes left when he punched home a fantastic through ball that was fed to him.

Spain Park was not going to go away quietly, though. With 19 minutes left, the Jaguars penetrated the defense and sent a barrage of shots at Eagles keeper, Ryan Dearman. Dearman fought off the three consecutive shots that came his way and the defense finally cleared the ball.

Besides a couple of shots that hit the cross bar and the combination of shots sent Dearman’s way in the 61st minute, the Eagles defense played phenomenally.

“We have two phenomenal goalies, we have a back four of seniors, that have been here. They were there last year through a state championship. Just having that nucleus and that chemistry makes it difficult for teams to get behind us,” said DeMasters.

Cameron Dunaway scored the fourth and final goal of the game in the 71st minute to put the championship in the bag for the Eagles.

“We have certain goals to meet throughout the season, ultimately ending with the state championship, and this was one of them. Just getting the Metro Championship two years in a row is nice for us. It builds confidence for the guys and continue on the run we are having this season. It’s pretty special,” said DeMasters.
