Roosevelt Spates, age 82, of Harpersville, died Saturday, April 9 in Harpersville.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Burial will be at Harpersville Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 11 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel. The Rev. William Rayfield, Rev. Zane Smith, and Rev. Darryl Wood will be officiating.

Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Slaughter (Claude) of Harpersville; son, Jerry Spates of Harpersville; brother, Roland Spates; grandchildren, Josh Slaughter, Emily Sylestine, Jessica Whittle, Katie Slaughter, Jared Spates, and Karlee Slaughter; and great grandchildren, Bailee Whittle, Brantlee Whittle, and Connor Sylestine.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Faye Spates; parents, Elven and Lillian Spates; brother, Alvin Spates; and sister, Betty Humphrey.
