HOOVER – Miss Spain Park High School will be crowned on March 18 at the conclusion of the school’s annual Beauty Walk.

“The winner will receive a $1,000 college scholarship,” Spain Park English teacher and head cheerleader coach Ashelie Halla said. “The scholarship is provided by The Clothes Tree by Deborah in Birmingham. We also help the community by raising money for charities every year in our pageant.”

Halla said proceeds from the “Miss Photogenic” portion of the pageant and from the “fan favorites” donations this year will go to support breast cancer awareness. Last year’s charity was American Heart Association.

Halla has been head cheerleader sponsor for six years.

“Jag Spirit” is the cheerleader booster club and the group sponsoring the pageant, and Bethy Heath serves as special events coordinator for the club.

Jag Spirit hired Dohn Dye to direct the pageant. Dye has directed many pageants in the area, including Miss Alabama, Halla said.

“We’ll crown a princess from ninth, 10th and 11th grade entries, and Miss Spain Park will be from the senior class,” Halla said.

Spain Park senior contestants will be interviewed about current events, challenges for their generation, and the like, Halla said.

“The interview part of the pageant will determine their poise and their ability to communicate,” she said.

The Beauty Walk begins at 6 p.m. in he Spain Park theatre. Admission is $10 per person, or $5 for Spain Park High School students with a valid ID.

Spain Park High School is located at 4700 Jaguar Drive, just off Valleydale Road in Hoover.
