Green facility wins gold construction award

Published Monday, July 14, 2008

Birmingham’s B.L. Harbert International LLC recently received honors for construction of the Alabama 4-H Environmental Science Education Center in Columbiana.

The contractor won an Eagle Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors National Excellence in Construction Awards for $10–15 million facilities.

The facility teaches students about conserving natural resources and protecting the environment. Projects were judged by project safety, recommendations from architects, uniqueness of the project and special obstacles.

The education center is one of the first U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold-certified building in the Alabama.
