CALERA Calera Middle School presented a $3,058 donation to Honor Flight Birmingham during a Veterans Day assembly Nov. 7.
Honor Flight is a non-profit program that honors World War II veterans by flying them free of charge to Washington, D.C., to visit their memorials. Principal Brent Copes said Pam Nichols of Honor Flight Birmingham received the donation as 12 World War II veterans looked on.
The Veterans Day assembly marked the end of the school’s Honor Flight fundraising campaign. Copes said students wrote letters and held their own individual fundraisers to publicize the effort.
