Men arrested in grocery store theft

Published Thursday, January 8, 2009

— Three Vandiver men are being held at the Shelby County Jail in connection to a Jan. 3 grocery store theft.

Patrick Chase O’Shields, 22, Joshua Edward Weldon, 20, and Steven Ray Overton, 24, were all arrested and charged with theft of property first degree for stealing money and other items from Watson’s Grocery on Highway 43, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

O’Shields and Weldon’s bond is set at $25,000. Overton’s bond is set at $15,000.

A sheriff’s deputy responded to Watson’s Grocery Jan. 3 after a missing person complaint call. Upon arrival, the deputy learned that the missing person was the store’s clerk, O’Shields. The deputy also suspected a theft had occurred.

Investigators immediately launched a search for O’Shields and found him Jan. 6. It was later determined O’Shields had two accomplices, Weldon and Overton.

The sheriff’s office has recovered approximately $1,500 of the stolen money.
