Six earn Johnny Lowe scholarships

Six students were awarded Johnny Lowe Academic Scholarships at the June 4 South Shelby Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon.

Lowe, a former mayor of Columbiana, was a founder and first president of the South Shelby Chamber, which was founded in 1993. Lowe passed away in 2002.

Scholarship recipients included:

• Emily Megan Spates, a graduate of Coosa Valley Academy, plans to continue her education by studying nursing at Central Alabama Community College.

• Joshua Ray Dunnaway, a graduate of Cornerstone Christian Academy, plans to study engineering at Auburn University.

• Brittny Nicole Waldroup, a graduate of Chelsea High School, plans to study nursing at Jefferson State Community College.

• Stephen Corey DeLoach, a graduate of Vincent High School, plans to study architecture at Birmingham Southern.

• Jillene Elaine Horton, a graduate of Shelby County High School, plans to attend the University of Montevallo.

• Monica Michelle Blackwell, a graduate of Shelby County Institute of Technology, plans to attend Lawson State.
