An Indiana financial advisor denies he tried to fake his own death by parachuting out of a plane over Harpersville in January.

In a letter to the Indiana Attorney General’s office, Marcus Schrenker of Fishers, Ind., claims he did not fake a distress call and deliberately crash his plane, according to The Indianapolis Star newspaper. Schrenker is accused of mishandling thousands of dollars in client money.

Schrenker also asks the attorney general to reconsider the freeze on his wife’s assets. Last month, a judge found evidence to support allegations that Michelle Schrenker used client funds for personal gain.

“There isn’t a moment that goes by that I don’t deeply regret the mistakes our company made and hope all parties will let me take responsibility for the financial issues surrounding the alleged funds that clients are missing,” Schrenker wrote in the letter.

Authorities arrested Schrenker in Tallahassee, Fla., on Jan. 13 after he fled from Harpersville. He is being held in the Federal Detention Center in Miami, where he faces federal charges of making a false distress call and purposely downing a plane.

Schrenker wrote in the letter he is “confident in winning the trial in federal court.”
