Montevallo falls in exhibition opener at Alabama
Published Thursday, November 5, 2009
The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team fell 81-53 to the University of Alabama in the Falcons' exhibition opener Nov. 4 at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa.
Montevallo was led by senior guard Freddy Little, who scored a team-high 17 points. The Raleigh, N.C., native hit 4-of-7 3-point attempts.

Junior Tauras Dortch, a UAB transfer who sat out the 2008-2009 season, was second on the team with nine points. Forwards Gerald January and Cecil Coleman led the team in rebounds with seven and six, respectively.
The Falcons led only once in the game, as Little hit a 3-pointer on the Falcons' second possession to give UM a 3-2 advantage. The Crimson Tide took over from there, gaining a 14-point lead by halftime, 39-25.
The second half was much like the first, with the Crimson Tide outscoring the Falcons 42-28 to seal an 81-53 win.
"I thought we were very tentative early," said Montevallo head coach Danny Young. "They are so big, athletic, and strong, so we got rattled early by that. We rushed our shots, even the uncontested ones that we had. That is just a testament to how physical and athletic they are. They do everything that (Alabama coach Anthony) Grant wants them to do and have bought into what he wants them to do. It's always a good chance to get to play somebody in a big arena like this and see how the team can do. I know they are all disappointed right now, but that's just part of it."
The Falcons will open up their regular season with a home game against Southeastern Bible College on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
