Vincent giving up so much to gain so little

Published Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Dear Editor,

White Rock Mining says that property values will go up, and they quote statistics from Pelham, Alabaster and Calera. Well, this is Vincent. Unlike our sister cities, property development has been opposed by elected officials, and we don’t have I-65.

On the sensible side, who would want to live in a location with constant, startling, bothersome noise when they could just as easily live in a neighborhood without that drawback?

And if property values are going to go up, why doesn’t White Rock Mining buy up all the available land in Vincent to reap huge profits?

Because if White Rock waits until the blasting starts, the company will be the only buyer, and the company will get it for pennies on the dollar. Again, we sacrifice the many for the benefit of the few.

There is tremendous profit in limerock and if property values are going to increase because of the WR quarry, why hasn't WR bought all the other land while it's cheep?
Autumn Drive sits right on top of a bigger & better deposit than the River loop deposit, just think how many more votes WR could buy if they offered those folks $20k per acre like they did the mayor's kinfolks on the River Loop.
