Autauga man arrested in Wilsonville on sodomy charges
Published Friday, February 5, 2010
Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies helped Autauga County authorities arrest a Deatsville man Feb. 3 at the Wilsonville Steam Plant.
The Autauga County Sheriff’s Department arrested 64-year-old Oscar Lee Wingo, of 315 Autauga County 68 in Deatsville, and charged him with 20 counts of sodomy in a case police say may have stretched more than 20 years.
As of Feb. 5, Wingo remained in the Autauga County Jail in lieu of a $1 million bond.
“We aren’t sure how many victims are involved in this case, but we know there are at least two,” said Autauga County Chief Deputy Joe Sedinger. “We are confident more victims will step forward as word gets out.”
After Autauga County authorities discovered Wingo worked at the Wilsonville Steam Plant, they contacted the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department to help with the arrest.
“We were able to obtain warrants, and we figured work would be the best place to arrest him,” Sedinger said. “He worked with a contractor that was doing work at the plant.”
The Alabama Power Security Division, the Alabama Department of Human Resources and Child Protection Services also helped with the investigation and arrest.
“We will continue to investigate the case, and follow all the leads we get,” Sedinger said, noting anyone with information about the case should call the Autauga County Sheriff’s Department at 334-361-2500.
