Legal group to host seminar on avoiding foreclosure

Published Friday, February 5, 2010

— For those worrying about losing their homes, help is coming.

Legal Services Alabama will host a seminar on how to avoid foreclosure Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. at Family Connection.

Housing Advocacy Director Kenneth Lay said the seminar is intended for anyone running into financial or mortgage problems.

“The goal is to get information out to the people who may be in need and letting them know there are alternatives to foreclosure,” Lay said.

He said it’s important for people to know their options when it comes to foreclosure because foreclosing on a home should only happen after every other avenue has been exhausted.

“A home is very important for people. It’s a basic need, but it’s also a very personal and emotional thing for people to be losing their homes,” he said. “We want to make sure that people understand it is not a hopeless situation. There are federal programs out there to assist them.”

If some cannot attend the seminar, they can call 1-866-456-4995 to get the same information that will be presented at the seminar.

Lay said Legal Services Alabama has been conducting these seminars for the past 18 months.

The seminar, which is free, is open to the public.

Family Connection is located at 2 Walker Run in Saginaw.
