Alabaster to host Arbor Day tree giveaway

Published Friday, January 29, 2010

— Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department and Beautification Board employees will be giving away trees to city residents during the city’s Arbor Day festivities.

The city will begin at 11 a.m. Feb. 27 at Alabaster’s Veterans’ Park off Alabama 119.

Because there will only be 150 trees available, officials are asking residents to arrive at the park early to pick up a ticket to reserve a tree.

During the Arbor Day event, several vendors will also host educational sessions about trees and plants.

“Last year, despite the cold, cold weather, we had a great turnout and enthusiastic response from residents,” read a city press release. “So bundle up and don’t miss the fun or educational sessions from our visiting experts."
