The Alabaster City Council on Monday passed a resolution creating a new municipal board to act as a liaison between business owners and city officials.

The Alabaster Business and Marketing Board will &uot;study, investigate, develop and propose marketing strategies for economic development&uot; while promoting the city to outside business and industry and creating a general good economic climate, states the resolution.

Councilman Adam Moseley said a business and marketing committee already exists under the auspices of the public relations branch of the council, and he expects the remaining six to seven members of the committee to be appointed to the board, which eventually will have between nine and 21 members.

While many of the existing committee members are Alabaster business owners, Moseley said the council and mayor likely will recommend the board be supplemented with members from varying backgrounds and occupations.

&uot;We wanted to have a wide-ranging board, not just business owners,&uot; he said.

Alabaster Mayor David Frings said the new board will help clarify and expand upon the duties previously assigned to the committee it replaces.

&uot;It can attract new businesses, but it primarily supports those which we already have,&uot; Frings said.

In other business, the council:

4 Approved a request for rezoning on Lovett Place, located off Sixth Avenue S.W., from apartments residential to single-family dwelling.

4 Approved requests for decorative street lights in the Saginaw Commercial Park.

4 Accepted a bid of $16,400 from Tractor and Turf Equipment Company for purchase of a new tractor for land and field maintenance.

4 Accepted a bid of $19,825 from Mainline Heating and Air Conditioning for a new heating and cooling system at the Albert L. Scott Library.

4 Accepted a bid of $47,627 from Dunn Construction for construction of a traffic turn lane on U.S. Highway 31 at the entrance of the future Alabaster Sports Complex.

4 Corrected a legal description on a recent annexation
