Police arrest two for drugs

A narcotics unit from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department assisted by Calera police arrested two men last week in Calera for allegedly dealing cocaine and other drugs.

Police also seized cash, guns and a vehicle.

Michael Dennis Houser, 37, and Rufus Jackson, 40, both of Calera were arrested without incident on 10th Avenue in Calera last Thursday, sheriff’s officials stated.

Houser was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance and remains in the Shelby County Jail on $15,000 bond.

Jackson was charged with distribution of a controlled substance, two counts of first degree possession of marijuana, second degree receiving stolen property and illegally possessing a pistol.

Jackson is being held in the jail on $70,000 bond.

Police said the arrests were the result of an investigation of complaints of drug activity at the residence.

Warrants were issued. Seized as a result of the search was $1,800 in cash, an undetermined amount of &uot;crack&uot; cocaine and marijuana, illegal prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia, firearms and stolen property and electronic equipment.

Police stated they also impounded a vehicle which was used for storing drugs.
