Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies and the North Shelby Fire and Rescue Department responded to the deaths of

two young people Thursday, May 9.

According to a release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, at 3:15 a.m. deputies and fire and rescue personnel

responded to a medial emergency at a residence on Cumberland Trace in the Meadowbrook community of North Shelby County.

Shelby County Coroner Doug Ballard pronounced 22-year-old Daniel Paul Steffler dead at the scene.

It was reported that the exact cause of death was unknown and pending the results of an examination by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

The Sheriff’s Department also reported that

at 6:40 a.m. deputies and fire and rescue personnel responded to a call at a residence on Cheshire road, also in the Meadowbrook community.

There it was reported they found 17-year-old Graham Barber

Sudderth unresponsive.

He was also pronounced dead by Ballard and the exact cause of death is pending the results of an examination by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, although both incidents occurred in the same neighborhood, initial indications are they are totally unrelated and foul play does not appear to be a factor in either death.

&uot;Our sympathy and prayers go out to both families of these young men at this time of tragic loss,&uot; said Chief Deputy Chris Curry. He said, &uot;It is so sad when young, promising lives are lost, and there are so few clues to indicate how and why they died. We hope that the autopsy results will answer our questions.&uot;
