Major, the Shelby County Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of principals for Elvin Hill Elementary, Shelby County High School and Vincent Middle/High School at its Tuesday, May 14 meeting.

Hired were Leah Anne Lowe for Elvin Hill Elementary,

William &uot;Bill&uot; Gibson for Shelby County High and Gary Minnick for Vincent High/Middle.

Lowe has more than 11 years experience in public education and previously served as assistant principal at Elvin Hill Elementary.

Prior to the position of assistant principal, she was a kindergarten/second grade teacher at Chelsea Elementary.

Lowe is a graduate of the University of Montevallo with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in early childhood/elementary education.

She also holds an educational specialist degree in early childhood education and earned her certification in education administration from the University of Montevallo.

Lowe was recognized as the outstanding alumni in early childhood education at the University of Montevallo.

She trained with retiring school principal Peg Hill.

Gibson, Shelby County’s High’s new principal, has more than 22 years experience in public education and previously served as assistant principal at the school.

Prior to his arrival in Shelby County, he was assistant principal at Gardendale High School.

Gibson is a graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in agriscience technology.

He also holds a master’s degree in agriscience technology and AA certification in the principalship from Alabama A&M University.

The new Vincent Middle/High principal, Minnick, has more than 12 years experience in public education in Shelby County and previously served as assistant principal at Calera Middle/High School.

Prior to his assistant principalship, he gained experience as a classroom teacher in the Shelby County School System.

He has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education along with an educational specialist degree in education administration from the University of Montevallo
