The Developing Alabama Youth (Day) Foundation hopes to raise more than $30,000 for at-risk youth at its Backyard Bar-B-Que.

The event will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the home of Larry and Cathy Clayton of Helena.

The DAY Program is a Shelby County facility that provides troubled students a school environment to address their academic, behavioral and emotional needs.

Cam Ward, chairman of the DAY Program board, said facility is funded in part by Shelby County Schools, United Way and grants from ADECA and that donations provide funds needed to keep the program available.

&uot;Your donation will help our troubled youth get an education &045; and an opportunity to redirect their lives,&uot; Ward said.

The bar-b-que marks the 20th anniversary of the foundation.

Ward said last year’s event was attended by more than 200 people and raised about $28,000.

&uot;Because of proration and overall cutbacks in grant funding our own Shelby County youth facility is at risk,&uot; he said. &uot;The primary concern for us is that our youth not only get an education but also assistance with issues that are preventing them from achieving success.&uot;

Tickets are $100 per person and a cash sponsor of $1,000 will be entitled to 10 tickets and special recognition at the event.

Entertainment will be provided by the Back Pew Boys, and chefs will be Jess Rawls, Bob Voshall, Bob Carr and Neil Bailey.
