Shelby County Stage Race coming to Montevallo

General Classification Cycling, a Birmingham based bicycle club, is directing the upcoming Shelby County Stage Race on Aug. 17-18 in Montevallo.

This race will offer over $15,000 dollars in cash and prizes.

GCC was formed in 1996 to promote amateur cycling, with an emphasis on learning training techniques, racing skills and safety.

The club consists of all levels of riders, from beginning to elite racers.

Since the club’s inception, it has held training clinics, road races, mountain-bike races and cyclocross races.

GCC is a member club of the United States Cycling Federation (USCF) and is also affiliated with the National Off Road Bicycling Association (NORBA).

The upcoming Shelby County Stage Race on Aug. 17-18 will feature a time trial, road race and a criterium for all levels of riders.

The time trial will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 followed by the road races at noon.

The criteriums will take place Sunday, Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. and go throughout the course of the day.

All races in this two-day event will start and finish on the campus of the University of Montevallo, and spectating is free.

GCC is proud to be directing a race that will attract bicycle racers from across the Southeast.
