Briarwood Christian School standout Tim Castille verbally committed to play football for the University of Alabama over the weekend.

Castille enters his senior campaign chasing state records in most points scored, most touchdowns scored, most pass receptions, most pass receptions for touchdowns, most receiving yards and all purpose yards.

Castille is 39 receptions away from catching Nick Threlkeld (Hubbertville, 260) for most pass receptions and 192 yards from catching Threlkeld in most yards receiving (4,006).

In most all purpose yards, Castille lacks 459 yards catching Steven Coleman (Pike County, 2,889).

In Castille’s 57 varsity games, he played in only 19 fourth quarters. He has been named All-State every year since the 8th grade (1998). If named All-State in 2002, he will become the first player in state history to be named All-State five consecutive years.

Castille’s career record is 51-6 at Briarwood and he has never lost a region or area game. Castille averages 7.6 yards per rush, 17.3 yards per catch, 14.6 yards per punt return and 26.9 yards per kickoff return.

The 5-foot, 11-inch, 220-pound senior scores a touchdown for every six times from scrimmage he touches the ball.

BCS head coach Fred Yancy said that Castille and UA should be a good duo.

&uot;Tim will be great for Alabama,&uot; Yancy said. &uot;They’re doing everything they can to keep terrific players in the state. He will make a fine player for Alabama.

&uot;Once Tim realized he was comfortable and had made the right decision, he wanted to make sure it was made public.&uot;
