Wilsonville pair named to U.S. Water Ski Team

Joe Ray and Ronda Jarvis-Ray of Wilsonville have been named to the U.S. Water Skiing World Team after their gold medal performances in the U.S. National Disabled Waterski Championship in Orlando, Fla. Aug. 10-11.

Joe Ray won a gold in the slalom with a score of three buoys, 39.5 feet off at 36 mph. He also took silver in trick and jump.

His performances earned him a spot on the 2003 U.S. World Team.

He was also a member of the U.S. World Team in 2000 where he captured a world gold medal.

Ronda Jarvis-Ray captured gold in the slalom with a score of three buoys, 22 feet off at 28 mph and also took gold in the jump and second in trick.

Her performance not only earned her a spot on the 2003 World Team but she was also selected as the overall National Women’s Champion for the 2002 season.

Another Alabama athlete, Mark Hieftje of Selma also took a golf medal at the event in the visually impaired division and has secured a spot on the 2003 World Team.

The World Championships will be held Aug. 25-31 on the same course in Orlando
